Family Projects
Family projects are a great way to keep the school/home connections active.  All family members are encouraged to assist. The children then share their projects orally. This helps to develop skills for speaking, listening, and questioning. The finished projects make wonderful hallway displays and the children are always so proud of them!

November Family Project
Please disguise Tom Turkey as a family so he won't be eaten on Thanksgiving and return it to school. Brainstorm together some fun ways to disguise him so the farmer can't find him when it's time for dinner. Be creative and use any materials you want. Some ideas include a snowman, a princess, a penguin, or a clown. We hope you have fun working together as a family!

January Family Project
Please work with your family to create a paper snowman using various objects. You may want to make a snowdad, a snowmom, a snowbaby, or a snowcat, etc.! Will your snowman have a scarf, eyes, nose, mouth, hat, arms, etc.? Your family gets to decide!

What types of objects could your family use? How about seeds, popcorn, raisins, peanuts, kernels of corn, ribbon, string, buttons, bottle caps, plastic forks, sticks, etc. Whatever you find!

For extra winter fun, why not build a real snowman outside! Have your child draw a picture of it or take a photo if you would like and email it to your teacher! We hope you have fun working together as a family!

We will try to guess who each baby is. Remind your child "not to tell"! We hope you have fun working together as a family!

March Family Project

Students can choose either to design a rainbow or create a leprechaun trap.

For the rainbow, be as creative or imaginative for each arc of color as you'd like. You can use many different items for the arc colors such as yarn, cloth, magazine pictures, beads, markers, etc. Encourage your child to offer their ideas, so they will be involved in the process.

The leprechaun trap project should not be much larger than a shoebox. Keep in mind how you will attract the leprechaun to your trap, as well as how you will entice him to go in your trap! Be clever, smart, and tricky! Be sure to make your trap "leprechaun tight!" Don't make it too big - remember you're catching a tiny leprechaun, not a giant! **Hint: Leprechauns are tricky fellows! They like shiny things and things that glitter. They are often naughty and disobey signs.

May Family Project

For our final family project this year, you and your child will be creating a collage of his/her life. This is such a neat project for the students to do and share with the class. Help your child select 4-6 important moments in his/her life. Each event should have a picture, be labeled with the event, and include the date. You can attach photos or draw pictures for each one and decorate any way you’d like. Use the paper provided for the collage.

Welcome
We are very happy to be part of your child's first year of school. We will do our best to make it a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Kindergarten is a time for all sorts of experiences. We will be working and playing in the areas of art, music, social skills, language, science, social studies, physical education, writing, math and reading readiness to name a few! Each day will hold something new for your child. Try to spend some time every day talking with your child about your child's new friends and school happenings. Your child may not wish to talk about it right after school so perhaps during supper, bath time or bedtime would be better.

School Jitters
Beginning Kindergarten is an exciting time for a child. Some children may experience anxieties about riding the bus, meeting new children, new activities, etc. They may cry and say that they do not want to come to school. We suggest that you insist that your child come to school. Usually after a few days most children have a different attitude and look forward to coming to school. However, if your child's has anxieties that continue, please call your child's teacher.
Clothing
Kindergarten is an active and often messy place. Please dress your child comfortably so your child won't have to worry about getting messy when doing school projects. Comfortable shoes are important too (especially for gym class and for playing on the playground). We have found that keeping shoe laces tied is quite a challenge. If your child has tie shoes please try and use "flat cotton" shoe laces. Round ones seem to come untied easily
