SELECTIVE SERVICE One of the most important responsibilities a young man must fulfill as he enters adulthood is to register with Selective Service. Under federal law, virtually all men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Men who fail to register become ineligible for important opportunities that can impact their entire lives, such as student loans, job training and government jobs.

Most 2 and 4-year colleges and some scholarship programs (ROTC Scholarships for example), require the results of a College Entrance Examination be sent to them. Admissions officers and scholarship program officials use the test scores, together with your high school record and other criteria, to assess your ability to do the work required in a post-high school training program.
The most popular college entrance tests are: 1. The College Boards Scholastic Test (SAT) 2. The American College Test (ACT) 3. In addition, some colleges (the more selective ones) require the applicants to take the College Boards Achievement Tests (SAT II). To decide if you should take a test, and which one and when, you must know the test requirements of post-high schools and the scholarship programs in which you are interested. Students at KCS who are planning to continue their education after graduation will have the opportunity to take college entrance exams during the school year. **Students are encouraged to register online at www.collegeboard.com and or www.ACTSTUDENT.org. If you need any further assistance please contact the Counseling Office. SCHOLARSHIPS:
Many colleges, civic organizations and professional groups offer scholarship opportunities to high school seniors. Varied scholarship information arrives weekly at the High School Counseling Office for students' consideration. Many scholarship criteria are very specific; the student and parent need to examine closely to see if the student qualifies for application. KCS seniors have been actively exploring the scholarship file maintained in the Counseling Office. For more information, or if you would like to look through the scholarship file, please call the Counseling Office at 659-8649 or log onto our website
