Anticipated Baseball Spring Training Trip
The baseball program is anticipating a trip over spring break during the 2011 season. The dates for spring break next school year are April 16th – 24th. We will either be attending the “Ripken Experience” or the “Disney Wide World of Sports”. Their respective websites are:
http://ripkentournaments.com/springtraining.cfm
http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/sports/baseball/
There are pro’s and con’s to each of these. I have provided a list of potential questions with answers, and at the end I have asked you to answer a few questions. Simply copy and paste the questions into a reply e-mail with your answers. Thank you for your continued support for Kendall Baseball!
Q: Does my son need to be a varsity player to attend?
A: No, we will be practicing and have at least 2 scrimmages so that everyone will see playing time in games.
Q: How many players can go?
A: 18 (that is how many uniforms we have)
Q: What is the cost?
A: It will depend on where we go. To give you a “ballpark” amount, two years ago, the cost (registration, hotel, flight, 3 day Disney park pass) was $930.00. This did not include meals. The Ripken Experience will be cheaper, but not as inclusive.
Q: Does my son need to attend to be part of the team?
A: No, the trip is not required to be part of the varsity or jayvee teams.
Q: Will there be any fundraising to defray from costs?
A: Yes, we held a dodgeball tournament (which we will do again) in February. So there is approximately $200.00 raised currently. There is an account open at the recycle center behind Dominoes Pizza in Brockport where you can donate your recyclables. Also, we will be conducting other fundraisers depending on how much you feel we need.
Q: What if my son wants to go but we can’t afford it?
A: Please speak with me confidentially about your situation and we will do our best to ensure that every athlete gets the opportunity to attend that wants too. There are many avenues that we can use to allow all our baseball players to participate.
Q: When will a deposit be due?
A: Once we have chosen a location, we would like to have individuals provide a deposit soon after. By September is our goal.
Q: Will I need to pay all the money at once?
A: No, we will set up a payment schedule (which is flexible).
Q: Does my son need to meet academic eligibility to participate?
A: Yes.
Q: What if we pay for our son, but they do not make the team in the spring?
A: If you pay for your son to attend the trip, they will be eligible to participate in all practices and scrimmages; however they will not be eligible to play in any regulation games during the trip. I realize that this may be a tough situation and will try to be as equitable as I possibly can.
